Anyone with input into Yanmar tractors?
QUESTION:I know in the past I have read that some of the metal enthusiasts in the group
also like/have excavation or farm equipment. I believe Fitch has some, for
example. I have run into the need for a small loader/tractor and have heard
that someone is importing low hour Yanmars from japan. Yanmar makes the smaller
John Deere tractors.
Has anyone any experience with these compact 4x4 tractors?
If there is an website that is more focused on this sort of thing, kindly point me
in that direction.
ANSWER: The Ford has a box scraper, 3pt hitch digging bucket, spring tooth
harrow for dragging the arena, post hole digger (which can also be
used on the little JD), and of course that
handier-than-a-pocket-in-a-shirt attachment a 3 point hitch forklift.
The forklift attachment is the one that is "always" on it. It gets
used twice a week to take out the 3 cu-yd dumpster full of used hay,
and yard trimmings, and junk, and bring it back in empty.
I considered getting a loader for the Ford but it would be to big to
be very handy around the barn, etc. The JD will drive right into the
pipe corrals through the 6' gates to dig out pee holes or bring in new
dirt to re level the stalls, etc. The JD serves as a Diesel wheel
barrow - the little excavator is the Diesel shovel - both really handy
for a guy with a bad back. I can ride a horse (with care) but I can't
dig with a shovel, not at all, or its back in traction all over again - I hate it when I make that mistake!
The other good thing about the little JD is that Nedra is comfortable
driving it. I could have bought a 4500 Ford industrial tractor with
loader and full hydraulic Gannon for what the JD cost - but it was to
big to be useful around the barn. Neighbor Butch can find me about
anything I want in used construction machinery for bargain prices - I
preferred the little tractor.
I looked at Skid Steers (the generic name for BobCat like equipment)
and have rented them from time to time - but they are to unstable to
suit me - the little ones are always tipping over. The big ones are
always gouging up the ground. If I was in construction I'd have a Bob
Cat, no question - but for here at the mini ranch - I'll take the
little tractor supplemented by the bigger one to carry out the
dumpster of course.
Umm, now that you have sold the track loader - whatcha got going for a
backhoe/excavator? BTW: You have to know that you about sole the JD 970!
