Drivway tear out and replacement ?

QUESTION:

I need to tear out a 30 year old 2000 sq ft concrete driveway ( no reinforcement ) and replace it . I will rent a skid steer with hydraulic hammer because I could use the old driveway pieces for riprap in my wooded backyard vs paying for tucking and landfill costs
. I would hire a professional finisher to fine grade , pour and finish the new driveway ( $.50-$ .75 / sf labor ) . How long should it take to break up the existing driveway with a bobcat with a hydraulic demo hammer ( the rental rate on the hammer are pricey) ?

ANSWER:

Probably figure on a day if I had to guess. The thing to do is to pick up the bobcat at the end of the day before.

For example get it Friday afternoon for Saturday use.

Then bring it back first thing on Sunday Morning. This should be a 1 day rental rate!

You will need to keep the skidsteer for a while later to move the broken up concrete. So it is probably best to talk to the rental yard about the rental rates usually they are pretty good unless the hammer is needed.

In other words you could do a 4 hour rental and keep it for the whole day since they know you have to move the broken up concrete to a different place. Ideally you could have 2 skidsteer or a tractor and skidsteer to move and break up the stuff!
