Using Pinball parts in other STUFF
QUESTION:here is the corresponding thread to the back hacks
thread we just saw.
I have a skid steer (many of you will know that as a
Bobcat) tractor I just put together.
used a wiring harness tie back for part of the
battery bracket, and I'm very proud of the new dashboard/
control panel I built out of an old metal coin
box. The old guages were all mounted on the front of the
seat so you had to be standing in the bucket to
know if you had no oil pressure. I have fixed many
things in the past with spare parts left over from
pinball machines, but this was my most recent -
anyone else have soem good ones?
ANSWER: Pinball rubbers come in handy for many things...
My best effort using machine parts came from a jukebox though... I was
replacing a voltage regulator on an antique truck I once owned. The original
voltage regulator was insulated from the ground by some kind of rubber device
that had deteriorated and allowed the unit to hit the ground, causing it to
short out and fry. I couldn't find anything in the garage that would work,
until I saw a package of rubber Rockola turntable grommets hanging on the wall.
Three of those- one at each mount, and I was up and running for about 4 years
before I totalled that poor truck in a wreck
I had my basement flood once because my sump pump's switch died (no pinball
damage, whew!)
After I cleaned up that mess I devised an early warning systems to alert me
when the water rose passed the pump line.
Got out a parts playfield and used an old switch (outlane), a bracket,
screws and some wire. Bought a small 12v buzzer and a 9v battery.
Rigged it all together to sound when the water gets high enough.
Works pretty good!
I also have had to break down a couple of pinball bodies that I plan to use
for shelving or for the floor in my attic.
