New Holland Excavator

QUESTION:

According to the Fitch rule, the need to re-do the driveway is grounds for petitioning for the purchase of an excavator. Now why didn't I think of that sooner!

ANSWER:

I spent a couple of pleasant afternoons running my brother in law's Case 9020B excavator last week while I was in PA on vacation. Huge
(weighs ~35,000 lbs)compared to mine (weighs 1,700 lbs) but the controls were the same and the bigger one was much easier to operate once I got used to how much area it covered - very smooth, lots of pump flow to support compound movements. Really fun to watch it scooping a yard of dirt per scoop - I dug a hole the size of my swimming pool in less than 25 minutes with it and I'm really slow compared to a professional operator that does it day in and day out. However, for what you want to do I think a New Holland 515 skid steer would be a pretty good machine - and it wouldn't crush the curbing if you strayed onto it.

I liked the CAT 953B track loader also, moves a lot of stuff, although it is a small one of its kind. 2.4 yard bucket if my memory is correct. But the excavator is the most fun - its just hard to find jobs to keep it busy for very long.
