Model Construction Equipment
QUESTION:This has probably been hashed to death, but I've been wondering...
How come there isn't any Construction or Heavy Equipment plastic/resin
models? (I know there are die-cast, but they don't count!) This would be
great subject matter for weathering, all manner of cool details. Perhaps not
quite the historical angle of ships, armor and a/c, but none the less, a
fresh "new meat" territory. I'd love to do a Caterpillar D12. How 'bout that
monster quarry truck Cat has. Lotsa cool stuff! Komatsu back-hoe's...
Barber-Greene road pavers... big cranes... the list
goes on. I'd see this as a primary 1/35 area as it would tie in nicely with
existing armor stuff...
And speaking of getting the kids interested: It might be a tad rough to have
a 11 or 14 year-old relate to a German WWII tank or Russian armor... but
they see heavy construction machines all over the place.
Just a newbie wondering why this apparent rich trove of subject matter seems
to be neglected.
ANSWER: One of the reasons that there are no caterpillar equipment is they have such a
strict
copyright and have enough lawyers to take just about anyone down. My company
is working thru another company classic construction models to give me
licensing to do a W.W.II D7 bulldozer the one seabees used We are planning to
do it in 1/35th scale " imagine the diorama possibilities". Check out my website
from time to time in the products page We will announce the release soon. We are
releasing a 1/6th scale time machine from the 1960 movie. Please visit my site
