Mitsubishi Heavy Equipment
QUESTION:I would like to get my oldest son(16) involved in modeling,he thinks Its a
crazy waist of time.he has always been nuts about heavy equipment like
backhoes, bulldozers and what not.I know I have seen models of them somewhere
but I can't remember where.
I could show him how to build a diorama with one doing something in the
dirt,sounds cool to me.
anybody know of a web site where I might start looking for those models.
ANSWER: Ertl recently (18 months?) re-released the JD 310
backhoe. This is easily the worst construction kit Ertl
did, but it is the only backhoe available.
AMT released a D8H "back when". They show up on
ebay from time to time. The biggest weaknesses of this
kit is the poorly represented track and the lack of any
hydraulic lines.
UPC offered a small Hitachi power shovel that is _very_ hard to find, and Eidai-Grip offered a larger (1/30)
Mitsubishi power shover, also _very_ hard to find.
In "N" and "HO" sacles, things are much better, with
European construction equipment being fairly available at
hobby shops that cater to model railroaders. American
equipment is also available, although perhaps not under
the trade name.
