Large Construction Equipment
QUESTION:I'm currently writing a novel/novella where this subject is one of the
staples, and I simply needed some help coming up with a logical evolution of such a
weaponry system. (From Tanks? from Powered Armor?)
ANSWER: Try thinking out of the box; how about originating legged armor from something
like the SeaBees; there exists now large construction equipment like cranes and
draglines that "walk" slowly with three or more large feet because they're just
too damn heavy for any other type of locomotion (ground pressure issues). If a
Construction Battalion has to build, say, a great big airfield somewhere in
hostile teritory, and must use non-wheeled hardware to do it, naturally it'd
have to be armored to some degree or another. Sooner or later it would evolve to
something that a General Officer would want to mount weapons on, and Bingo! your
first, albeit crude, walking tank.
