QUESTION:Is there a dollar per hour figure that I can use to estimate an approximate
cost for Bulldozer work in New England? I need a big one to do some stump
work, maybe a D8 or so. I would like to figure the machine and an operator.
ANSWER: Have you considered using a root rake. We hired an operator with a 200
Kobelco excavator which had a fork like bucket to dig up our tree roots.
They can then be either burned or trucked away ....depending on your
location. This way you keep your topsoil instead of scraping it away with
the dozer. This method is good for small or large areas. We cleared about 4 - 5 acres around our new house this way & it keeps a lot of the organic
matter in the immediate area & you don't have to truck in any more expensive
topsoil. In the spring we spread lime & meadow grass & it all came
beautifully. The cost was $95.00 can. including the operator for the root
raking.
