John Deere Excavator Parts

QUESTION:

I am interested in buying a mid-sized excavator, I know what size and features I want, but I'm having trouble deciding on the brand. I am considering Takeuchi TB070, Kobelco SK60, John Deere 190E, and Cat 307.
(Weight class is 15-16,000 lbs). The problem is - they range from $75,000 to $95,000 (all with same features and accessories). I plan to trade it in or sell it around 3,000 to 5,000 hours and I just don't know if the Cat unit is worth the extra investment. And on the other end I worry that the less expensive brands won't hold up. Are the Deere and Cat units built that much better? I am leaning toward the Deere or Kobelco units because the pricing is in the middle of the range and the few people I have spoken with say they are just as good as a Cat; which causes a dilemma because I truly believe you get what you pay for!

ANSWER:

Do a comparison by looking at what the used market looks like at this time. Find like machines, with about the same hour meter reading you intend to sell at. If possible, check the repair history of the machines for a cost analysis.
