QUESTION:If you are ONLY going to use it for a home renovation, why not hire
someone with a real backhoe for the task or even rent a backhoe for that
time period? A real backhoe can probably do the work 5 times as fast as
the micro backhoe. I have contemplated buying a backhoe for my tractor (about $5000), but I realize that for the misc. jobs I do, it is cheaper
in the long run to hire it out - once I take into account the initial
investment, interest, maintenance, storage and speed of execution.
ANSWER: This is very much true. My dad had a tracker based unit about 20 years ago
and got rid of it cause he couldn't get any thing done. Then we bought a
John Deere 410 backhoe. It's a great unit but not the best digger in the
world, so now it's used as a front loader. We now have two
trackhoes/excavators, one 44,000lb and one 7,000lb units. The 44 is more
than most people need but the 7k unit is probably the best work horse we
have. It can do every thing from pulling an engine to digging foundations
and with the lights it's great when one of the neighbors needs to bury
something in the middle of the night.
