Ingersoll Rand Construction Equipment

QUESTION:

I concur with David. I have a 5 HP, 2 stage Ingersoll Rand compressor, and it runs anything up to a small sandblaster, and is fairly quiet, to boot. Avoid the "oil-less" models. They are noisy, and don't last well.

Look for a cast iron compressor pump, not aluminum. If they try to sell you a 5 HP that runs on 120 volts, find another dealer.

Buy the biggest and best compressor you can afford; a good one will last for years, and the overall cost of ownership will be low. Buy a cheapie this year, and be prepared to buy another one next year.

If you get into bodywork, air sanders, paint guns, etc. need a lot of air. Many of the other air tools get pretty intermittent use, and an undersized compressor will handle them, but air sanders will separate the men from the boys, so to speak.

ANSWER:

The construction equipment I sell for sells Ingersoll-Rand compressors. We sell them and never see them again (for service). We sell all sizes, from the small units to the large towable types. IR is by far the market leader in compressed air solutions and reliability.

I own a Campbell-Hausfield 1HP electric "Super Pal". It does the job. But I've done some repairs to it over the years.

If I decide to upgrade, it will be an IR unit.
