QUESTION:Can you recharge the a/c your self on an hitachi 225 excavator?
I was thinking on getting some of those recharge kits from the parts store to charge my excavator, but wasn't sure if it would work
ANSWER: Sure, that's a way to save money, just be careful not to overcharge it, R-134 systems can easily be overcharged.
Charge it slowly and as soon it works properly (assuming you don't have a gauge set to check the pressure at the suction side at least) stop filling it in.
Working properly means the compressor's clutch kicks in for a few minutes and drops off (all depending on the ambient temperature). It should be alright then. Also watch for frost build-up on the suction line, it shouldn't be there, only for a couple of inches. Usually one 12 once can is sufficient.
