Forklift Services

QUESTION:

On Amazon and other web sties that ship the heavy equipment, I've seen references that the shipper doesn't unload the package. I've asked for clarification, but I haven't received an answer. On one web site, I saw the following note, "Please note that it is the customer's responsibility to unload all merchandise from the rear of the truck. "

Getting a 500lb saw off the back of a shipping truck doesn't seem to be the easiest thing to do on a moments notice (not to mention, it would probably arrive when I'm at work). Who else has gone through this experience ?

ANSWER:

May I make a casual observation? Since the website notified you of the fact at least a week in advance, the phrase "on a moment's notice" does not apply.

While it's nice when the seller tells you all you need to know up front, it is the responsibility of the buyer to find out these details before the purchase and delivery. Get it in writing before the sale so you can claim it against the seller if the trucker forces you to pay extra charges which should have been covered. I had to pay extra fees of $65 and $35 for handling and forklift services when I picked up a ton of jarrah at the San Pedro docks. (Not too many pieces were missing.) The bastards mentioned the $65 handling fee only after the shipment was in, and didn't mention the forklift fees until I was there to pick up the load. I had my checkbook with me but they refused to take a check, demanding cash on the spot.
