QUESTION:Could someone please tell me specifically what is required by OSHA in the
way of forklift safety training?
ANSWER: All OSHA says is that "Only trained and authorized" persons shall
operate towmotors and that "methods shall be devised to train" persons
in the safe operation of them. No specifics are given as to how
people should be trained and what information needs to be conveyed to
them. I believe that OSHA was coming out with new training
guidelines, but I don't believe that they are out yet....if ever, with
the current congress.....
It is up to the individual organization to determine how to train
their operators....many companies send their people to training given
by outside organizations.
