QUESTION:Starter motor would be your best bet, otherwise you would be looking at
something hugely expensive. How do you intend to control your rate of
acceleration? You would be much better with an ordinary petrol go-kart
motor.
ANSWER: Starter motors have a bad habit of overheating, they are very inefficient
and are not designed for continuous duty. Been there done that . I'm
currently modifying my go-kart to take a 48V forklift hydraulic motor. I've
designed a PWM motor controller for it and it should be good for 12kW of
power and S#!Tloads of low-down torque (series wound motor)... Electric
vehicles don't have to be slow!
Petrol go-karts are noisy, smelly and you can't
drive them around the neighbourhood without creating a large disturbance.
