QUESTION:I am considering renting warehouse space. I think that 1,000-1,500
feet of space with heavy warehouse racks and ability to use someonae's
forklift (which I would pay for) would be great. As I can be content
with only storing low dollar per pound stuff there, I think that I
would not have great concern with possible theft. So, I would consider
sharing warehouse space with someone etc. One thing I will need is
internet connection in the warehouse, as that would let me list stuff
from there on eBay.
Has anyone tried anything similar, do you have any experiences to
share.
ANSWER: Find a closed grocery store. The parent company
typically leases the bldg for 10 years. If they
close, the place sits empty and idle but still
costs them rent.
I used to close Wild Oats stores in exactly that
scenario. They'd typically sit idle with store
fixtures, shelving, fork lift, loading dock,
pallet jacks, pallets, adding machines, computers,
televisions, bar code readers etc all in place.
If their lease allows them to do it, they'd be
glad to lease to you to reduce their dead rent
liability.
