Primeval Whirl

QUESTION:

Is this guy nuts? A spinning ride and a family coaster -- isn't that the ho-hum expansion at IOA this summer? And these are pretty basic off-the-shelfers -- why will it take almost two years to set them up?

The Wild Mouse sounds like the cool spinning Exterminator at Kennywood -- only stripped of all its theming. Disney is being outDisneyed by an amusement park and beat to the punch too.

ANSWER:

As I've said elsewhere, I believe this will be the same kind of coaster as Kennywood's Exterminator. (aka: Reverchon Crazy Mouse). However, I've heard a couple of plans over the last year as well and how this might go down.

1) At one point I was told Disney had a model that looked like someone had merged two of the standard Crazy Mouse coasters together so that they would have two tracks... but kind of "duel" in the hairpin turns. It also sounded like these would be generic and exposed, much like the Mad Mouse at DCA, and would fit in with the tacky carnival & tourist trap theme that they would use in Dino-Rama.

2) They would take the idea and look of the old Excavator... and apply it to a custom track layout that would use the same style of cars as the Crazy Mouse. Meaning... lots of tunnels, rockwork, waterfalls, dino bones, scaffeling, and spinning little coaster cars all over the place.

I'm hoping #2 is still the plan because they could set up #1 in about 6 months and have it ready for Spring 2001 if that was all they were doing.
