QUESTION:I've used a Dingo (from Toro) with a 12" Auger to dig some holes. Worked
great! I wish I had used it to put in my split rail fence. I used a 1 man
tow-behind auger for the fence and it got hung up on the smallest of rocks.
The Dingo plowed right through (same soil/rock conditions). It was also
easy to tow behind my little Toyota pickup. I couldn't have done that with
a bigger machine. I'm planning on renting it again this spring to re-grade
the soil next to my house before I start on the deck. I'll also use it to
dig the holes for the pilings. I'm not sure how well it'll do on the
re-grading, but I only have about 6 inchs of soil move
ANSWER: The advantage of skid steers is that they are much quicker
and require less space to turn. We have found that you
can get as much done with a skid steer as a tractor loader
with a bucket three times the size, for short runs. If you're
moving material quite some distance, the tractor works better.
